Sri Rama Navami is the day of Lord Sri Rama’s birthday and marriage. Rama, the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born to the King Dasaratha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya. He is known for his noble and honest living through out his life.
The auspicious festival is celebrated on Sukla Paksha Navami according to the Hindu calendar, in the month of Chaitra, which is said to be the birth period of Rama. And Rama’s marriage with Seeta, daughter of Janaka, king of Mithila also falls on the same day, in the Abhijit lagna.
Marriage of Lord Rama and Seeta is celebrated and performed to the idols on this day, every year at all the temples of Rama. Especially the marriage performed at Bhadrachalam, the famous temple of Rama, constructed by his devotee Sri Ramadasu is a true visual feast to the people. The grandeur of the Telugu marriages can be completely seen in the wedding of Rama. Rama and Seeta are said to be the ideal couple of all generations. The nobility of Rama is described as “one word, one arrow and one wife”. It innerly carries the message that every person must be physically and soulfully be connected with only one life partner.
Seeta is a perfect example of an ideal wife who always wished for the goodness of Rama and stayed with him enduring all the troubles through out her life. The life of Rama-Lakshmana is an example of loyalty and love. The whole life of Sri Rama teaches us the much needed lessons and the tips for ideal living.
Sri Rama Navami is celebrated with the marriage of Rama and various recipes that Rama likes. One of the recipes made is Paanakam, made from jaggery and water.
May Lord Rama bless everyone with happiness, prosperity and love. May we learn all the needed lessons from Seeta Rama and fill our lives with bliss.
